HOW ARE LASER SKIN RESURFACING TREATMENTS PERFORMED?
Laser skin resurfacing treatments are performed at the Acqua Blu Medical Spa at Premier Plastic Surgery & Dermatology as outpatient procedures. Before the procedures, skin will be cleaned and anesthetics will be administered to alleviate any discomfort that might be felt during the treatment. For ablative laser treatments, an intense therapeutic light is directed at the skin. This light destroys the epidermis (outer layer of skin) and heats the dermis (underlying layer of skin) shrinking collagen fibers. The skin will heal with new, smoother and tighter skin. The treatment typically takes anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours to complete, depending on the surface area of concern. For nonablative treatments, after the administration of anesthesia, a substance is applied to the skin to protect the epidermis (outer layer of skin) from the laser. The therapeutic light is applied to the skin, which targets the collagen beneath the outer layer of skin, stimulating growth to tighten the skin and improve the overall appearance. The outer layer of skin remains unharmed. This treatment can take anywhere from fifteen minutes to two hours, depending on the size of the treated area.
